What is School Readiness?
The purpose of the School Readiness Initiative is to improve the ability of families,
schools and communities to prepare children to enter school ready to succeed. The
program includes children's readiness for school, schools' readiness for children
and family and community supports and services that contribute to children's readiness
for school success.
How is eligibility for School Readiness projects determined?
First 5 California determined that elementary schools with a 1999/2000 Statewide
Academic Performance Index (API) ranking of 3 or below are eligible.
How many schools in San Bernardino County qualify?
In San Bernardino County, there are 99 schools that qualify for School Readiness
funds. However, the CCFC will allow up to 20% of demonstration or pilot programs
to be ineligible schools, if the project comprises a large area of multiple schools.
How much money will be available to San Bernardino County for School Readiness
projects?
San Bernardino County may apply for, on a dollar for dollar cash match, up to $2.9
million per year, for four years, plus $100,000 for implementation and administrative
costs.
