Welcome to our website!
First 5 San Bernardino supports programs, activities and services that promote and support early development of children prenatal to age 5, so that they can enter school, ready to learn and thrive. Since First 5’s inception, almost a decade ago, we have improved the lives of thousands of children and their families by working with our partner agencies. Yearly evaluations show that we have made good progress in the areas of health and wellbeing, early care and education and family support.
However, the downturn in the economy has made First 5 funding vulnerable, as the state looks to close a $25 billion shortfall to its budget. If our local funding is cut drastically in the next fiscal year, our commission will have to choose among and prioritize programs that have proven to enhance the lives of our youngest citizens and their families. Clearly, this will not be an easy task.
Be sure to visit the First 5 website for news and updates as we tackle what will be a very challenging fiscal year. Please attend our monthly First 5 Commission meetings, usually held the first Wednesday of every month starting at 3:30 pm in the Covington Chambers of the San Bernardino County Government Center, San Bernardino. We want to hear your opinions.
